Look no further than our skin specialist for effective rosacea diagnosis, treatment

Rosacea takes the notion of a “rosy appearance” to the next level. This condition is associated with uncomfortable, prominent, and persistent flushing or blushing, bumps that resemble acne, and visible blood vessels distinct from sun damage. Rosacea can even have an ocular component that causes red, burning, itching eyes. Without proper treatment, ocular rosacea can lead to corneal damage and vision loss.

A board-certified medical and cosmetic dermatologist, Dr. Hope Mitchell of Mitchell Dermatology, will accurately evaluate your skin and concerning symptoms. From her offices in Perrysburg and Fremont, Ohio, she will pinpoint the cause of these concerns, be it rosacea or another condition with “rosacea like symptoms. This knowledge informs the “next steps” to bring you relief and restore the health, appearance, and comfort of your skin.

Lifestyle approaches: Know your triggers!

Rosacea is among those conditions with numerous “triggers.” Exposure to sunlight is cited as the most common culprit responsible for rosacea flares. The process of rosacea manifesting itself in the skin starts with blood rushing to the surface, which gives rise to zit-like bumps, diffuse redness, and visible capillaries. Rosacea skin also often burns or stings, is dry and leathery, and, when not promptly and suitably treated, it can progress to where the skin is swollen. Tissue may collect, especially around the nose, contributing to a bulbous and hard-to-miss appearance.

Rosacea can also flare up or be aggravated by:

  • Temperature swings
  • Excessive heat or cold
  • Spicy foods
  • Hot foods and beverages
  • Stress
  • Blood pressure drugs and other meds that dilate the blood vessels

Treatment depends at least partly on the type of rosacea affecting your skin (or eyes). Avoidance of the pinpointed trigger can go a long way to promote healthy skin and lasting comfort. Depending on your needs and what we find following a thorough consultation, we may recommend well-controlled light-based therapies, which are also used to manage other chronic conditions like psoriasis or eczema. Some phototherapies may also be combined with light-sensitive medications to powerfully and predictably clear redness.

Since rash-like redness is such a common complaint, it is a “must” that we examine your skin to determine what is at the root of your concerns. Call us today at 419.871.3737 (Perrysburg office) or 419.871.3636 (Fremont office) to schedule your consultation.
